Terms of Service

Last updated: February 2026

Please read these Terms of Service ("Terms") carefully before using BuddyPay. By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. Description of Service

BuddyPay is a shared expense tracking application that helps friends and groups keep track of who owes who. The Service allows you to create groups, record expenses, split costs, and view balances.

BuddyPay does not handle money transfers. The app is a tracking and record-keeping tool only. All actual payments and settlements between users happen outside of BuddyPay (for example, via cash, bank transfer, or other payment apps). We are not a financial institution and do not provide payment processing services.

2. Accounts

To use BuddyPay, you must sign in with a Google or Apple account. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account and for all activity that occurs under it. You agree to provide accurate information and to keep it up to date.

You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. By using BuddyPay, you represent that you meet this age requirement.

3. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose
  • Enter false or misleading expense information to defraud other users
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to other users' accounts or data
  • Interfere with or disrupt the Service or its infrastructure
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble any part of the Service
  • Use automated scripts or bots to access or interact with the Service
  • Harass, abuse, or harm other users through the Service

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules.

4. User Content

You retain ownership of the data you enter into BuddyPay (group names, expense descriptions, amounts, etc.). By using the Service, you grant us a limited license to store, process, and display this data as needed to provide the Service to you and your group members.

You are responsible for the accuracy of the expense information you enter. BuddyPay does not verify or validate expense amounts or descriptions.

5. Intellectual Property

The BuddyPay app, website, logo, and all associated content, features, and functionality are owned by BuddyPay and are protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works based on our intellectual property without prior written permission.

6. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or completely secure. We make no guarantees about the accuracy of balance calculations, though we strive to ensure they are correct.

7. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, BuddyPay and its developer shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Service. This includes, but is not limited to, damages for loss of data, financial disputes between users, or inaccurate expense tracking.

Our total liability for any claim related to the Service shall not exceed the amount you paid to use the Service (if any) in the twelve months preceding the claim.

8. Disputes Between Users

BuddyPay is a tool to help track shared expenses. We are not a party to any financial arrangements, agreements, or disputes between users. If a disagreement arises about an expense or balance, it is the responsibility of the users involved to resolve it among themselves. BuddyPay is not responsible for mediating or settling any disputes between users.

9. Termination

You may stop using BuddyPay and delete your account at any time. We may also suspend or terminate your access to the Service at our discretion, including if we believe you have violated these Terms.

Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately. Sections of these Terms that by their nature should survive termination (such as limitation of liability and dispute resolution) will continue to apply.

10. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms. If you do not agree with the updated Terms, you should stop using the Service.

11. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with applicable law, without regard to conflict of law principles.
